NC-SARA Releases New Professional Licensure Directory

First-of-its-kind directory compiles professional licensure contacts from 52 states and territories

BOULDER, CO – The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) today released a new directory that compiles professional licensure contacts in NC-SARA-participating states and territories for careers in five leading fields: counseling, nursing, psychology, social work, and teacher education.

“Institutions must provide clear information to ensure students understand whether their chosen educational program meets the professional licensure requirements of the state in which the student plans to practice,” said Dr. Lori Williams, NC-SARA President and CEO. “However, it can be challenging for institutions to quickly access that information. NC-SARA’s Professional Licensure Directory is designed to help make it easier for institutions to identify and reach out to the appropriate state contacts for the most popular professional licensure programs in our member states and territories.”

NC-SARA worked with SARA State Portal Entities (SPEs) and regional compacts to create the Professional Licensure Directory, which provides contact information for five programs (counseling, nursing, psychology, social work, and teacher education) that lead to a professional license. These programs were chosen because they have the most enrollments, per the data provided by NC-SARA-participating institutions.

The first-of-its-kind directory compiles general contact information for relevant licensure boards and state governing bodies in 49 states and three territories (the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), all of which are NC-SARA members.

The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) is a voluntary, interstate reciprocal approach to state oversight of postsecondary distance education. The initiative is administered by the country’s four regional higher education compacts (MHEC, NEBHE, SREB and WICHE) and coordinated by NC-SARA. States and institutions that choose to participate agree to operate under common standards and procedures, providing a more uniform and less costly regulatory environment for institutions, more focused oversight responsibilities for states, and better resolution of student complaints. www.nc-sara.org
